Prepare
- ☐ Read the storage section of your owner's manual
- ☐ Wash and dry the car; clean the interior to avoid odors and pests
- ☐ Change the oil if due
- ☐ Fill the tank and consider a fuel stabilizer if storing for months (follow product directions)
Battery and tires
- ☐ Use a battery maintainer, or disconnect the battery if the manual allows
- ☐ Inflate tires to the pressure on the door-jamb placard
- ☐ Avoid setting the parking brake for long periods if your manual advises against it; use wheel chocks
Protect
- ☐ Block pest entry points (exhaust tip, air intake) and remember to remove blocks before starting
- ☐ Use a clean, breathable cover sized for the vehicle (outdoor covers, RV covers)
- ☐ Indoors if possible; away from trees and sprinklers outdoors
Paperwork
- ☐ Ask your insurer about storage coverage; do not drop comprehensive without checking loan or lease rules
- ☐ Note registration renewal dates
