Outdoor covers face sun, rain, snow, wind, bird droppings and tree sap. The right one depends mostly on your local climate.
Choose by climate
| Main threat | What to prioritize |
|---|---|
| Strong sun / UV | UV-resistant, reflective outer layer; light color |
| Frequent rain | Water-resistant but breathable fabric, sealed seams, vents |
| Snow and ice | Thicker multi-layer cover, strong straps; brush off heavy snow |
| High wind | Snug fit, elastic hem, underbody straps |
| Trees, birds, sap | Durable outer layer that is easy to rinse |
Outdoor vs. indoor covers
Indoor covers are soft and breathable, built to keep dust off in a garage. They usually aren't made for rain or UV, so don't use one outdoors for long.
Fit
Fit matters more than almost anything else. A loose cover flaps in wind and can scuff paint; a too-tight cover strains seams. Use the maker's fit lookup by year, make and model, or measure bumper to bumper, mirror to mirror and roof height. Always put a cover on a clean, dry vehicle: grit trapped under a cover can scratch paint.
